Choose the right cut points

Cut a useful clip without losing the beginning or ending of the action.

Work in seconds

Load a video in the trim tool and play its preview before choosing timestamps. Start and end are expressed in seconds, so 1 minute 12.5 seconds is 72.5. To keep the section between 12 and 18 seconds, enter 12 and 18. The expected clip is about 6 seconds long. The start must be smaller than the end, and both values must fall within the source duration.

Leave room around the action

A cut directly on the first word or movement can feel abrupt. Look at the preview and leave a small lead-in when appropriate. Check the final exported file, especially when cutting speech. The preview shows the source; the result page shows the actual exported clip. Download and play the result before using it in another project.

Understand re-encoding

Gomav creates an H.264 MP4 and uses AAC for an audio track when one exists. The clip is re-encoded rather than copied at keyframe boundaries. This improves the usefulness of the time selection, but compression can change image quality and file size. It is not a lossless export, and frame timing can differ slightly from decimal timestamps.

Keep the original

The browser reads a copy of your file and does not overwrite it. Keep the original until you have checked duration, sound and the final frames. If processing reaches the time limit, try a shorter source or a smaller resolution. Return to the trim tool to create another clip; the temporary result remains available in this browser for one hour.
